Biography

Piotr Sleczek is a composer and violinist. He was born in 1984, in Krakow, Poland. He started musical training (violin and piano performance) at the age of six at the Primary Music School of Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Krakow. After obtaining his diploma at the Frederic Chopin Music High School in Krakow, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Arts in violin performance from the Music Academy in Katowice, Poland. In addition he also graduated from the Marie Cure-Sklodowska University in Lublin with a Bachelor of Arts in British Literature.

Piotr Sleczek is actively composing for different orchestras and choirs. In 2009 The Silesian Philharmonic Choir commissioned a work for a choir a cappella, called "Stream - Roman Triptych" for the celebrations of The Pope's Days. It was written to the words taken from part of John Paul II's poem, from the collection Roman Triptych. In 2011 Piotr Sleczek composed a piece called "Dream of the Rood" commissioned by The Silesian Philharmonic Choir. The work was inspired by one of the oldest Christian poems known in British literature, by the same name. In the same year, Piotr Sleczek composed a piece for a mixed choir a cappella for Commemorations of the 800th Anniversary of the Birth of Blessed Salome, titled "Unica mea est Salomea".

As a violinist, Piotr Sleczek has performed with many Polish orchestras, in Poland, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, and Holland. Most recently, he was a violinist in the Orfeusz Chamber Orchestra. Working with top Polish musicians has broadened his experience and perspective on contemporary music.

He refers to his music:

"Composing is a universal language that opens the mind of the listener, who can realize and accept a different version of himself as an individual.  The composer becomes an architect of emotions and our inner world, proposing yet another way of expressing and experiencing emotions. In this way art is not personal; composing is rather unveiling than inventing. It functions as a catharsis, as it frees us from a habitual and limited experience.  Combined with gratefulness towards potential beauty, it opens a door of inspirations. In this way, it is timeless."

Piotr Sleczek is also a film music composer. In 2009 he composed a soundtrack for a Polish movie titled "I Love You So Much".

He is a member of The National Association of Composers / USA, American Music Center, and The Garden of Art Committee, which organizes an international composer's competition. He resides in Munich, Germany; Krakow, Poland; and Dallas, Texas USA.
